TITLE: SHAPED FOR HIS GLORY Jeremiah 18:1-6 The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying: 2 “Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear My words.” 3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. 4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make. 5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: 6 “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?” says the Lord. “Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel! 1. INVITATION: GO TO THE POTTER'S HOUSE Jeremiah 18:2 "Go down to the potter's house, and there I will give you, my message." Romans 10:13 Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” 2. THE POTTER NEVER GAVE UP ON THE CLAY Isaiah 64:8 Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay; you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. 3. THE PRESSURE HAS A PURPOSE 4. SHAPED FOR HIS GLORY 2 Corinthains 4:7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 5. The CLAY NEEDS TO STAY SOFT Philippians 1:6 …being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. 6. JARS WITH NO LID STAY OPEN Romans 8:11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’ 19 “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’ 20 “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’ 21 “The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’ 22 “‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’ 23 “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. 24 I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’” 1: THE TABLE IS BIGGER THAN IT LOOKS Luke 13:24 (NIV) 24 "Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to." Luke 14:22 (NIV) 22 "'Sir,' the servant said, 'what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.'" 2: PEOPLE ARE HUNGRIER THAN THEY SEEM Luke 14:18 (NIV) 18 "But they all alike began to make excuses. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience. 12 We are not trying to commend ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to take pride in us, so that you can answer those who take pride in what is seen rather than in what is in the heart. 13 If we are "out of our mind," as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. 14 For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. 2 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV) 20 We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.
