Sunday, 5th October 2025 “But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: ‘We ought to obey God rather than men.’” (Acts 5:29) Throughout the New Testament, ordinary men and women heard from God — through angels, visions, the Spirit, or the voice of Jesus Himself. Their obedience changed history. In the same way, when God speaks to us today: through His Word, prompting of His Spirit, through Godly leaders or the prophetic. Mary — Obedience Brings the Impossible (Luke 1:26–38) Mary heard Gabriel’s announcement: she would bear the Son of God. Her response: “Let it be to me according to your word.” When the Spirit speaks, don’t wait until you have all the answers. Say “yes” and watch God birth the impossible through your obedience. Joseph — Obedience Protects Destiny (Matthew 1:20–24; 2:13–15) Joseph obeyed angelic instructions His obedience preserved the Messiah’s life Sometimes obedience looks like protection: guarding your family, your calling, your purity. When God says “move,” obedience shields destiny. The Disciples — Obedience Unlocks Calling (Matthew 4:18–22) Jesus said, “Follow me.” They left nets, boats, and family. Their obedience turned fishermen into apostles When Jesus calls, obedience may cost you comfort, but it positions you for kingdom impact. Ananias — Obedience Releases Transformation (Acts 9:10–17) God told Ananias to go to Saul, the persecutor. Fearful, but obedient, he laid hands on Saul. Saul became Paul — the greatest missionary of the church. Your obedience may unlock someone else’s destiny. Don’t underestimate a Spirit-led step of faith. Philip — Obedience Opens Doors for the Gospel (Acts 8:26–30) The Spirit told Philip to go to the desert road. He obeyed, met the Ethiopian eunuch, and the gospel spread to Africa. Obedience to the Spirit’s whisper can lead to divine appointments that change nations. Peter — Obedience Breaks Barriers (Acts 10:9–23) God gave Peter a vision to go to Cornelius, a Gentile. His obedience opened the gospel to the nations. Sometimes obedience means breaking cultural, racial, or religious barriers to bring the gospel to those who’ve never heard. Paul — Obedience Fuels Mission (Acts 16:9–10) Paul saw the Macedonian vision: “Come over and help us.” He obeyed, and the gospel entered Europe. Obedience to God’s call can shift the course of history. The Pattern of Obedience Mary said “yes” → Jesus came. Joseph obeyed → Jesus was protected. Disciples followed → the church was birthed. Ananias obeyed → Paul was transformed. Philip obeyed → the gospel spread. Peter obeyed → barriers broke. Paul obeyed → nations were reached. Every great move of God in the New Testament began with someone hearing and obeying. God is still speaking today — through His Word, His Spirit, prophetic voices, and inner promptings. Will you obey ?
